Writing Assignments From Across the Curriculum
Below, you'll
find a variety of writing assignments used in different disciplines across our
campus. They are grouped roughly by the thinking/writing skills they
require. You can see that each writing assignment requires that students
apply these skills within a context.
Though with
stand-alone writing courses (not part of coordinated studies) we might lack this
sense of context that disciplinary courses have, we can create a meaningful
context for our own writing assignments by requiring our students to respond to
specific themes and readings (this can also help prevent
plagiarism!).
One way to use this page as a resource
would be to share with students how the thinking/writing skills in your
assignments relate to writing in other courses on campus -- and provide
examples.
