For this paper, you’ll need to imagine that you are a school counselor, writing a general letter to parents of children between the ages of 5 and 7 about a current issue that may impact their children.

You’ll need to define the issue so that parents can understand, discuss the impact that it might have on a child this specific age, and explain what they can do to deal with this issue should it affect their child.

We will generate a list of possible issues in class.

To provide background on the child development issue, you’ll need to use 2-3 sources (no more) from child development or psychology journals (we’ll talk about acceptable journals in class). Please correctly paraphrase or quote the necessary information and use APA to cite your sources.

Length: 2-3 pages, typed, double-spaced

Instructor’s plan to approach the paper:

  1. Discussion of possible topics in class
  2. Students freewrite for 10 minutes in class on chosen issue
  3. Library workshop on finding 2-3 good sources
  4. Summary of source material due w/ draft of bibliograph
  5. Students must turn in first draft of paper w/ peer responses
