| Mr. Anderson was born as "Beauty"
on September 13, 2003, outside of Portland in Woodburn, Oregon. He
was born into the Camino Xoloitzcuintle Kennel and lived most of his first
weeks in a blanket-filled laundry basket with his mom, brother, and foster
sister. His vibrant personality was evident early on, as when he was
3 weeks old, he yelled out a paw-pounding, "Yeow!" His
brother, meanwhile, said nothing. |

Despite his unruly nature, as can be
witnessed by his barking and tirades at Highline, Mr. Anderson comes from
an award winning dad and a great breeding mom. His dad is Camino's
Sangrai del Noche, or "Romeo," the 2003 XCA Champion and 2004 Best in
Show Mexican Champion.
Mr. Anderson's mom Chi Chi is a champion in the breeding
category. She often fosters other animals as well--other dogs,
even rabbits, cats, and rats! She is a gentle, loving mom who
allows people to briefly hold her pups before nudging them to return her
pups to their laundry basket! |

People have called Mr. Anderson a Jack Russell, an
Italian Greyhound, even a Fox Terrier, but he is a Xoloitzcuintle
("show-low-eats-queent-lay"), or Xolo
("show-low"). The breed is also called the Mexican
Hairless, and is the national dog of Mexico. Xolos are an ancient
breed that date back to Pre-Columbian times, are native to Mexico, and are
widespread throughout South America.
Although Mr. Anderson should be hairless, he is still in
fact a Xolo. What breeders have told me is that at least one pup in
every litter is coated. As you can see, Mr. Anderson looks very much
like his coated mom Chi Chi, but his dad Romeo is quite hairless!
Xolos also come in toy, miniature, and standard sizes. Mr. Anderson
is a toy size. At his last vet appointment, he weighed approximately
13 pounds. While Mr. Anderson is a pedigreed dog
from a breeder, I advocate
adopting rescued animals. If you have the means and time to
welcome an animal into your family, welcome a rescue animal--they are
forever thankful. |

Since Mr. Anderson is a very social dog and
does have a bit of separation anxiety, he used to come to Highline on days when he would be at home alone.
But he's become a bit of a barker, so you may not see him around very
often. Although he barks, he doesn't bite; he just
gives kisses. And he does not eat people food, so please don't offer
him any human treats! But the next time you're walking around campus
and see a crazy dog twirling at every person he sees, say hi to Mr.
Anderson! |
