Computer Information Systems and Computer Science
Departments
Mission Statement:
The mission of the CIS and CS Departments is to meet our
constituents’ educational needs through Computer Science
transfer, Developer/Programmer Specialist, Network
Specialist, and Data Recovery/Forensics Specialist programs.
Department Objectives:
1. Provide our constituency with superior instruction in a
supportive environment;
2. Equip students with the professional and technical skills
necessary to be successful in today’s market; and
3. Assist faculty members to remain current in their
disciplines through support of professional development
activities.

Physical Science Department
Mission Statement:
The mission of the Physical Science Department is to provide
quality instruction to all students in the areas of
chemistry, physics, geology, and introductory physical
science and astronomy so that the students will gain mastery
in the subjects studied and will be prepared to successfully
transfer to four-year institutions.
Department Objectives:
1. Offer and support courses constituting a two-year
curriculum in chemistry and geology, and a one-year
curriculum in physics;
2. Offer introductory courses in
astronomy, chemistry, geology, physics, and a survey of
physical science for the enrichment of students not majoring
in science;
3. Make the best use of available resources to provide a
quality laboratory learning experience for those courses
having a lab component;
4. Ensure that course material is relevant, current and at
academic levels appropriate to meet the course objectives;
5. Advise students in their programs and participate in
general and new student advising activities;
6. Review student educational plans and inform them of
academic employment opportunities;
7. Engage in curriculum development at the course, program
and department level;
8. Make and revisit strategic plans for current and future
course offerings;
9. Ensure that courses offered meet or exceed college
standards, are transferable to other institutions, and are
appropriate preparation for students’ professional and
academic objectives;
10. Attend workshops, seminars, conventions and take part in
studies appropriate to one’s field as well as to education;
11. Publish works ranging from research to pedagogy.
