Announcements

Since it requires a quorum (8 Senate Members) to conduct Senate Business, we adjourned early today.

Before we adjourned there were 2 informational items.

Jeff Wagnitz had an announcement from Dr. Bermingham for all Faculty.  The following statement has been approved by the WACTC Educational Services Committee and goes forward for review by the Student Services Commission January 2006.    Statement approved at the Fall Instruction Commission meeting, 3 November 2005.  The statement is as follows:

“The Instruction Commission expects that all colleges in the Washington Community and Technical College System accept transferable general education courses offered by the Technical Colleges as equivalent to their own similar general education courses, that the Instruction Commission members communicate this position to those in their colleges responsible for accepting transfer courses, and that the Instruction Commission send this resolution to the Educational Services Committee of WACTC and to the Student Services Commission.”

There was also a motion to change the Lab Science Degree Requirement made by Dee Skinner.

The Associate of Arts, Option A Science distribution requirement shall be modified:  This will impact both option 1 (standard distribution and option 2 (distribution with emphasis).

Motion I:  The sentence “Students must choose at least one science course that incorporates a laboratory experience”  will be replaced with:  “Students must choose at least one science course that has as a laboratory experience as a significant part of the course.  This course must be at least 5 credits or part of a pair of courses totaling 5 credits.  If the laboratory experience is part of a pair of courses, credit must be earned in BOTH courses to complete this requirement.”

No discussion or action was taken on this motion as we did not have a quorum.

The Faculty Senate Secretary agreed to email all Senators on the Monday before the next meeting to remind them to attend or send a proxy.

Meeting adjourned at 3:10 p.m.

Next meeting is February 1st, 2006.
