1.  Phil Droke shared with senate members information on the Washington State readiness project having to do with subjects such as math readiness.

  1. Honor’s Option.  Faculty discussed the issue of students completing a course and then wanting an honor’s option and requesting this to their instructor.  Glen Avantaggio shared that any instructor can offer an honors option.  Divisions have not all adopted a policy regarding this option.  Ruth Frickle said the Psychology Department does not agree with after the fact honors options being given.  They believe that an honors option should be in place while a student is taking a class.  Phil Droke asked if the senate should engage in discussing this issue with the aim of formulating a policy to cover this issue.  Ruth Windhover said that part time faculty didn’t always have information about syllabi which could possibly contain an honors option.  Phil Droke emphasized that if an honors option is offered,  syllabi should so reflect this, too.  Glen Avantaggio stated that if students want an honors option they should participate in the process.  Some members mentioned that Barbara Clinton might be making honors options more available for students to obtain, keeping in mind that students get free tuition with honors options.  Ruth Frickle mentioned that students must have a 3.5  average to qualify for an honors option.  Deborah Bacharach said that honors options should involve a large project.  John Lindsay pointed out that we should include part time faculty in this process.

  1. Syllabi.  Faculty began discussing the issue of what should be included in a syllabus.  Departments should use the same format for syllabi.  Jeff Wagnitz asked if this subject is included in the part time faculty handbook.

  1. Glen Avantaggio announced that our senate web site includes the constitution and bylaws for the committee.

  1. Phil Droke brought up the subject of the faculty excellence award which contains a large sum of money for the award.  He also brought papers with information on the Course Articulation Project with common course numbers.

It was moved and seconded that the meeting be adjourned.

Respectfully submitted,
