Members Present:Han Lim, Arline Garcia, John Pfeffer, Glen Avantaggio, Rebecca Sliger, Maggie Brown, Sharon Hashimoto, Michael Cicero, Geoff Turk, Jeff Wagnitz

Also present: Gwen Spencer

Meeting convenes at 3:30. Glen made an announcement that the Graduation Review Board had met recently to consider a request by a student to waive the residency requirement for the A.A. degree. After considering the circumstances the GRB was inclined to grant this request. But the catalog policies, as approved by the Senate, seemed to specifically forbid any exceptions. The GRB, being the body specifically tasked with making exceptions to the Graduation requirements, wanted to let the Senate know of its inclination, and asks for response. The Senate members present agree with the GRB’d decision.

Members present agree that this policy should be reviewed next Fall.

Glen reminds members that committees staffed by the Senate are listed on the Senate web page, and that new assignments are made in the Fall. Any members having constituents wishing to serve on committees are asked to bring this information to the initial Fall meeting.

The discussion of the Probation and Suspension policy that had been implemented last Fall continued. The Senate has been considering certain changes to that policy. It was agreed that the current policy as written is acceptable, BUT that there needs to be a registration block in order for the policy as it effects 2nd quarter probation to be effective.

The policy states that students on 2nd quarter probation will not be allowed to be enrolled for more than 12 credits. In order to implement this policy effectively and efficiently it will be necessary that students on first quarter probation who wish to enroll for the following quarter should not be allowed to enroll for more than 12 credits. Glen agreed to ask Registration to implement this rule with an enrollment block.

Jeff Wagnitz asked the Senate if they could provide him with some document that affirms that the Senate supports the grading policy as it appears in the current catalog.

John Pfeffer made the motion: that the grading policy as stated in the current catalog accurately reflects Senate policies to date.

Seconded by M. Cicero. Motion passed.
