Issues
Phil Sell stated that the Associated Science degree guidelines were approved by the ???. They do not have ICRC approval yet, but probably will soon. The Science Division needs to put together a proposal for our school for the A.S. degree.
The Capstone Project as recognized by the CO 20/20 report was the issue before the Senate currently. Eric Baer moved to approve the addition of a capstone project for the AA option A degrees. The specifics will be determined by a subcommittee of the Senate. Angi Caster seconded the motion. Discussion followed. Angi questioned whether this would be part of an existing course or an increased degree requirement. It was noted by several senators that we should encourage synthesis but not increase the requirements. Most programs already provide this experience in some form currently. Pat Bille stated that the Business Division would not support the requirement, but agreed that it is a good idea. There was a call for the question. Motion failed.
The Honors Option was the next issue which arose through communication from Barbara Clinton, Honors Program Coordinator. Phil distributed to the members copies of the Honors Option Guidelines, Honors Scholar Program brochure, and the college catalog section of Honors Scholars.
The program currently ... Humanities, Social Sciences, and Sciences (?). They are wanting to broaden the program to include Business students.
It was noted that a distinction needs to be made between "graduating with honors" and an "honors scholar."
A subcommittee was formed to ... Vickie Ropp and Barbara Clinton.
Eric Baer reported on the faculty forum on grades. He stated that there were approximately 30 people present. ...
Phil stated that the Writing Intensive Requirement committee has been formed. Bruce Roberts is the chair; Maggie Brown and Angi Caster are both on it from the Senate.
Meeting adjourned 4:00 pm
