Essay Questions, Exam 4

 

For this exam, you have the option of answering a pair of essay questions or one, longer question.

 

Your answers should be typed (double space, 1 inch margins etc.), cite all sources and be as thorough as possible in your responses.  Reminder: explain all key concepts and ideas as if you were talking to someone who doesn’t know much, if anything, about this topic. 

 

Turn in your essays by noon on Friday, June 6. 

 

 

OPTION 1, question pair (answer both A & B):

 

1A. Describe the eating disorders anorexia and bulimia.  Explain how they are similar to and different from each other?

 

 

1B. Describe the clinical features of autism, be sure to address it as a spectrum of disorders.  Differentiate between mental retardation and autism.

 

 

 

OPTION 2, one longer question (has 4 parts)

 

Using the attached form* and instructions, rate the availability of information from the State of Washington on services for the mentally ill.  You need to find the information on a Washington State website (not any other organization).  When you’ve completed the evaluation, complete the following (A-D):

 

2A.  Did you start this process with any personal/professional knowledge of where to find the information?  Explain.

 

2B.  Did you fall back on and use that knowledge (because you got 'stuck' early in your search for info)?  Explain.

 

2C.  Write a letter to Governor Gregoire identifying what information you found lacking.  Explain why that information is important, and why its availability is important.  Offer specific suggestions for how the state could improve the information sources it provides. (you won’t have to send the letter).

 

2D.  Attach your completed evaluation form.
