GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS

 

Each case study is designed to explore the ideas of a specific theorist.  The application questions allow you to demonstrate your comprehension of the concepts that are central to the theorist’s perspective.

 

The case studies all have a set of application questions and a set of theory comparison questions.  I expect you to respond to all questions which pertain to material we have covered up to the due date for the case.  That means that at the beginning you won’t answer as many theory comparison questions because we haven’t covered all the theorists.  By the end of the quarter you’ll be answering most of the questions.  You will always answer ALL of the application questions. 

 

I will be looking for you to answer the questions completely, explain your reasoning clearly and provide supporting evidence for your position.   The evidence should include clear explanations (in your own words) of the theorist’s concepts and appropriate examples from the case. 

 

Never assume that I “know what you mean”.  I might, but the point of this assignment is for you to demonstrate your knowledge and reasoning, not for me to demonstrate my exceptional perceptiveness and intuitive understanding J.

 

There’s no need to rewrite the questions, but please put the answers to the questions in numerical order and number them as they are numbered at the end of the cases.  Provide headings for each section of questions (i.e. Application Questions, Theory Comparison Questions).

 

FORMAT INSTRUCTIONS

The following format instructions apply to the Case Study Papers and the Capstone Case Study Paper.  These format instructions are important requirements, not just suggestions.  You will lose points on your assignments if you don’t meet these criteria.

 

–    All assignments should be typed, double-spaced, paragraphs indented (do not double-double space between paragraphs).

 

–    Use APA style.  Visit my homepage for links to information about this style of citing sources and writing social science papers.  Also, if you are aiming at a psychology major, consider investing in the APA style manual.

 

–    The font you use should be no larger than what you see here (this is Times New Roman 12 point) and preferably no smaller. 

 

–    Use 1” (one inch) margins on sides, top and bottom.

 

–    For all papers create & use a cover sheet with your name, the class, the assignment number and my name on it.  Staple your paper.  Please do not use report covers or folders of any type.

 

–    Spelling, grammar, and syntax are important.  I recommend that you invest in a psychology dictionary and use it along with a dictionary of standard English.  I also recommend that you have someone proofread for you.  Don’t forget about the Writing Center, they can be most helpful and it’s free!
