Application Process

Completed applications for the September 2010 program will be accepted from November 2, 2009 to May 7, 2010 by the Admissions representatives located in Building 6  (Gum-Lai or Laura). We do not accept faxed applications. The office of Admissions obtains Highline Community College student transcripts. Complete application packages consist of the following:

  • Completed Highline Respiratory Care program application form
  •  Completed Highline Community College application form
    (available here)
  • Highline Community College Admissions application fee paid
  • Official transcripts from other colleges you have attended for the following pre-requisite courses (for the class beginning September 2010)

    ENGL& 101 ~ 5 credits
    BIOL& 160 or equivalent ~ 5 credits
    BIOL& 241 Human Anatomy And Physiology I ~ 5 credits
    BIOL& 242 Human Anatomy And Physiology II ~  5 credits
    PSYCH& 100 ~ 5 credits
    PSYCH& 200 ~ 5 credits

 

  • Request to Evaluate Official Transcripts from Other Institutions form
    (instructions available here)
  •  Current resume with emphasis on work experience
    (please include 3 references)

The selection process is based on:

  • Successful completion of all pre-requisite courses with a 2.0 minimum grade by the end of Spring quarter 2009.
  • The quality of your short answer response.

Qualified students are admitted on a space available basis. Preference is given to applicants who have healthcare experience and/or a college degree.

Other Requirements

Prior to the beginning of the third quarter, students must provide the results of

  • Physical exam
  •  PPD (tuberculosis) test
  •  Serology
  • Select immunizations
  • Hepatitis vaccination
  • Criminal history background check

Important Note: Students must carry liability and personal accident insurance with payment due during the first and fourth quarters of the program. Maintenance of CPR certification is required throughout the course of the program. Students are responsible for their own transportation to and from clinical courses in the hospitals. Students are also required to purchase stethoscopes and approved uniforms for clinical courses.

We encourage you to attend an information session in Bldg. 26 room 219, which is the Respiratory Care lab. This is an opportunity for you to meet with a Respiratory Care faculty member.
