Class Calendar for 9am class, 10am class and 11 am class Winter 2009

January

6th – Introduction

8th – Throwing demo

13th – Throwing demo

15th – Making handles

20th – Trimming your pottery

22nd – Student’s progress check should have five pots completed.  These do not          have to be perfect works of art.

27th - First bisque firings, take all work ready to be fired into the electric         kiln room     and place it gently on the wooden shelves. All students   are required to have a piece in this firing. Please do not touch other student’s work. (REMEMBER:  clay must be bone dry to be fired this is     also its most fragile state)

29th – Glazing demo

February

3rd - “Pinch forming”/ Rattle Demo.  2nd assignment; create a working rattle    with  the pinch forming method.

 5th –First glaze firing today, all students required to have a project ready for   this firing.

10th - “Building a coil pot” Demo. Rattle needs to be built by today.  All            students must have a pot in this firing.

12th - Student’s progress check

17th- Building a box with clay slabs” Demo. Coil pot needs   to be built by today

19th – Work day

24th – Work day

26th - Glazing demo for rattles and boxes

27th – Last day for wet work

March

3rd – work day

5th – work day

6th – Last bisque firing

10th – Last glaze firing - This will be the last chance to glaze your work.  Do not          wait until today to do all your glazing. History has show that many      students save all their work until the last possible day to glaze; this    produces more work than what will fit into the kiln.  If your work doesn’t get fired it cannot be turned in for a grade.  Last day for         advanced student working in low fire to bisque art work.

12th – Clean up day

16th  unload last glaze fire (start 9am last chance to earn lab time).   Students required move all projects from tables to their shelves or lockers before 5pm.

Finals 17th – 20th
