Physical Sciences

100 PHYSICAL SCIENCE (Su, F, W, S) 5 credits
An introduction to concepts in physics, chemistry, geology, and astronomy. Topics from related areas of science may also be included. Intended for non-science majors.

Astronomy

120 ASTRONOMY (S, F, W) 5 credits
Prerequisite: Math 81 or equivalent.
Introductory course with emphasis on the astronomical concepts fundamental to our present understanding of the universe; the solar system, stars, galaxies, and cosmology.

Physics

100 SURVEY OF PHYSICS (Su, F, W, S) 5
Prerequisite: Math 91 or equivalent.
An algebra-based approach for students who have not had physics or need more preparation for Phys 101 or 201. The course covers basic concepts such as motion, force, inertia, momentum, and electricity. Includes one credit of laboratory.

101 GENERAL PHYSICS I 5 credits
Prerequisite: Math 116 and either Physics 100 or one year of high school physics.
The study of motion, force, energy, momentum, circular motion and vibration; emphasis on theoretical aspects and applications through problem solving. Historical development of classical and modern theories of the physical universe. Mathematical tools include algebra and trigonometry. Includes one credit of laboratory.

102 GENERAL PHYSICS II 5 credits
Prerequisite: Phys 101 or equivalent.
Study of electricity and magnetism, emphasis on theoretical aspects and applications through problem solving; includes historical development of classical and modern theories of the physical universe. Includes one credit of laboratory.

103 GENERAL PHYSICS III (S) 5 credits
Prerequisite: Phys 102 or equivalent.
The study of mechanics, heat, sound, light, and modern topics; emphasis on theoretical aspects and applications through problem solving. Includes one credit of laboratory.

120 INTRO TO ELECTRONICS 5 credits
Prerequisite: Math 097 or equivalent. Prerequisite: PHYS 102 or 202.
Review basic principles of electricity, electrical measurements, D.C. and A.C. circuits; diodes, transistors and OP amps, digital electronics, microprocessors; Includes one credit of laboratory.

191 PHYSICS STUDY SECTION 1 credit
Prerequisite: concurrent enrollment in Phys 101, 102, or 103.
Study session for students in Physics.

201 MECHANICS (F) 5credits
Prerequisite: Math 124 and either Physics 100 or one year of high school physics (or equivalent).
The study of motion, force, energy, momentum, rotational motion, and vibration; includes historical development of classical and modern theories of the physical universe. A calculus based approach to physics especially for students of science and engineering. Includes one credit of laboratory.

202 ELECTRICITY/MAGNETISM (W) 5credits
Prerequisite: Math 125 and Phys 201.
The study of electricity and magnetism. A calculus based approach for students of science and engineering. Includes one credit of laboratory.

203 WAVES AND MODERN TOPICS (S) 5 credits
Prerequisite: Phys 202.
The study of heat, waves, light, and other topics in modern physics. A calculus based approach for students of science and other engineering. Includes one credit of laboratory.

290 SPECIAL STUDIES 1-5 credit(s)
Prerequisite: Permission. Prerequisite: Concurrent enrollment in PHYS 201, 202, or 203. Study session for students in Physics.

291 PHYSICS STUDY SECTION (F, W, S) 1 credit
