About the Program
The Nursing Assistant course work an be
completed in one quarter. Upon completion of the program, students
are eligible to take the state certification examination.
Nur A 101 - Nursing Assistant Theory (6 cr.)
- Basic Nursing care
- Safety and Emergency procedures
- Resident’s rights and confidentiality
- Therapeutic relationships
- Legal/Ethical issues
- First Aid/CPR certification
- Bloodborne pathogens/HIV certification
Nur A 100 - Nursing Assistant Practicum (5 cr.)
ABE/ESL Class (5 hours)
- Basic skill building for entry into health care
- English language competence for workplace communication
- Cultural Awareness
Currently, Highline Community College offers an I-BEST Nursing
Assistant program. I-BEST stands for Integrated Basic Education and
Skills Training. This means that there are several instructors that
teach in the classroom at the same time. The nurse instructor and
clinical instructor provide the skills training and the basic skills
instructor provides the basic education.
