National Science Foundation Scholarships in Science, Technology,
Engineering and Math
Application deadline for Fall quarter: November 7, 2008
Students who are pursuing a
degree in Pure and Applied Science at Highline Community College
and are eligible for financial aid may receive up to $5,265 per
year through the Science Scholars Program.
Areas of Study in Pure and Applied Science at Highline
Community College:

- Biotechnology
- Botany
- Chemistry
- Computer Science
- Computer Information Systems
- Drafting Design Technology
- Environmental Science
- Engineering
- Geology
- Mathematics
- Marine Science
- Oceanography
- Physics
Note: Degrees in the health
occupations are not eligible.
To apply for the scholarship:
- Apply for financial aid at
http://www.fafsa.edu.gov.
Identify Highline Community College as one of your intended
institutions.
After your application has been processed (4-6 weeks), you
will be notified of your aid eligibility.
If you are eligible for financial aid, proceed to
step 2.
- Print and complete the
application.
On the reverse side of the application, complete the
Personal Scholar Plan with an advisor in your academic
discipline. Please contact us if
you need assistance finding an advisor.
- Include a copy of your most recent transcript.
- Include one or two letters of recommendation from any
source.
- Submit the application and Personal Scholar Plan, with
your transcript and letter(s) of recommendation to the
administrative assistant on the 3rd floor of building 29.
Student Requirements:
- Be eligible for federal financial aid
- Be enrolled in at least 12 credits per quarter towards
one of the degree programs listed above
- Maintain a 2.5 minimum quarterly GPA
- Provide one or two letters of recommendation
- Be citizens of the United States, Nationals of the
United States (as defined in Section 101 (a) of the
Immigration and Nationality Act), aliens admitted as
refugees under Section 207 of the Immigration and
Nationality Act, or aliens lawfully admitted to the United
States for permanent residence
- Participate in 30 hours of cohort activities from one or
more of the following as approved by an SSP advisor:

2-credit Human Powered Paper Vehicle class

2-credit Design and Build a Greenhouse class

Cohort kick-off and end-of-year socials

Cohort graduation ceremonies

Industry field trips

University visits

Professional conferences

- Submit a
Quarterly Report by the end of the first week of each quarter to renew
your scholarship.
