Graphics Specs: Favicon
What is this?
This tiny image is called a favicon. In browsers
other than Internet Explorer, the favicon can be seen in the address
box with the web page address. This icon becomes part of
bookmarked pages.
How can I get a favicon for my site?
For web authors who obtain a copy of this
template after June 20, 2006, the favicon and code are included.
If you need to update your template and are not comfortable working with HTML
code, please contact us for assistance. Otherwise,
follow the steps below:
-
Copy favicon and put it in the images folder of your website.
-
Rename the image to favicon.ico
-
Put this line of code in the <header>
</header>tag of all your pages. <link rel="shortcut icon" href="images/favicon.ico" >
-
Publish your site to upload the favicon and
all the revised pages.
How did we come up with this favicon ?
Favicons must be square. Our new logos are rectangles. Squeezing a rectangle into a square made the letters of the HCC logo too small to read and other details were lost. We would break brand standards by tweaking the proportions of the logo
to fit into a square.
Brainstorming with Cherie Crowley, Highline's Graphic Specialist, and testing multiple combinations of letters, elements and colors, we came up with this favicon
for Highline webs using elements from the new logo.
