About MaST

Mission Statement

Highline Community College MaST: California Sea Cucumber

To promote understanding, appreciation, and preservation of the marine environment through hands-on research, education, and community activities that highlights the beauty, complexity, and importance of the South Puget Sound ecosystem.

Historical Overview

  • 1960s—Highline Community College developed an Undersea Diving Program which taught students to be commercial divers. Graduates of the program traveled the world and have worked in many exotic, and sometimes not so exotic, locales. The program was phased out in the early 1990s.

  • Late 1990s to 2003—the facility was used to support research in Puget Sound water quality and as a biology lab for Highline Community College classes.
