Archives, photo and artifact processing Internship

Work Hours: Flexible hours on Mondays and Fridays between 9:30am – 5:00 pm

DESCRIPTION: Under the supervision of the Curator of Collections the intern's primary responsibilities will be to process a collection of archival material, such as personal documents, photographs, scrapbooks and general artifacts. Intern would gain an insight into the nature of primary source material and how such material is made available for use by researchers. The specific collection to be processed would be chosen to suit the interests of the intern and the needs of the Highline Historical Society.
Additional training related to preservation, arrangement, description, and creation of finding aids for archival collections will be provided as time permits.

REQUIREMENTS:
= Detail-oriented and able to work independently
= Good organizational skills.
= Demonstrated ability to work under supervision.

Intern would learn to:
Survey and arrange a collection of archival material.
Re-house material with acid-free containers and perform basic preservation tasks.
Properly label folders and boxes.
Create a finding aid for the collection, description of the collection, and a detailed folder level listing of contents.

 

WORKING CONDITIONS: Molds, dust, and other air-borne allergens may be present.
