Online Discussions - Resources

Overview

  • Building Community
  • Group Work
  • Extending the classroom
  • Online/hybrid class discussions

Online discussions are an excellent way to extend classroom discussions, or for online and hybrid classes, to generate high-quality interaction. True "discussion" is best done with Blackboard's Discussion tool. Some more limited interaction can be accomplished with blogs, and one-on-one interaction with on-line chat. You can use online discussions to:

  • Continue discussions that threaten to get the class off point, but on a topic that deserves to be explored;
  • To encourage discussion on interesting topics that you don't have time to study in class;
  • As a forum for assignment or report presentation;
  • to make it easier for small groups to meet by facilitating asynchronous communication.
