Quality Matters
What is Quality Matters?
Quality Matters is a a faculty-centered, peer review process designed
to certify the quality of online courses and online components. It uses
a research-proven 8-part rubric to create discussion around effective
online and hybrid course design.
The rubric is based on forty specific elements divided into eight General
Standards:
- Course Overview and Introduction
- Learning Objectives
- Assessment and Measurement
- Resources and Materials
- Learner Interaction
- Course Technology
- Learner Support
- Accessibility

Quality Matters @ Highline
Highline has been piloting various uses of the Quality Matters
rubric. Currently, twelve Highline faculty have been trained to use the
rubric. Three are certified QM Reviewers.
During Summer and Fall Quarters of 2009, five Highline courses will
be participating in an official QM National Review. The instructors for
those courses will be sharing their experience in a Fall Quarter,
LTC-sponsored seminar.
The state Community and Technical College system is piloting an
in-state system of reviewers which would allow faculty in the system to
have courses reviewed at a discount rate.
