Posting PowerPoint on Angel

Posting a PowerPoint file to a web site or Blackboard can cause a number of problems for your students, including:

  • Extremely long download times due to large file sizes
  • Problems printing
  • Lack of file compatibility

We recommend making your PowerPoint files available on the web using Adobe's Acrobat PDF file format.

Creating the PDF

On a PC (Office 2007, 2010):

  1. Switch to the File Tab (Office 2010) or click on the Home Button (Office 2007)
  2. Select "Create PDF/XPS Document"
  3. Click the "Create PDF/XPS" button
  4. Click the Options button in the lower right corner
    • In the Publish Options, "Publish what" item, select "Handouts" from the list
    • Select the number of slides per page.
  5. Click OK
  6. Click Publish

On a Mac:

  1. Select File, Print.
  2. Determine what you want to print:
    • In "Print What:" select "Handouts"
    • Select the number of slides per page
  3. Click the PDF button and select "Save as PDF"

Posting the PDF to Angel:

Small PDF files can be posted directly into Angel. Larger files should be posted to your web site and then linked from Angel.

Open the Angel classroom where you want the video to appear.

  1. In the Lessons tab, click “Add Content”, then "File".
  2. Click Browse, and select the file.
  3. In the Title field, add the name you want students to see.
  4. Click Upload File.

Posting the file to your web site (Expression/Windows):

  1. Open your web site in the usual manner.
  2. Go to the File menu, and select Import....
  3. Click the "Add File" button.
  4. Select the file you saved in the step above.
  5. Click the "Open" button.
  6. Click the "OK" button.
  7. Open the page you want to link the file from, and create the link to the new file.
    • Add the file size next to the link name if it is over 50K
    • Add a link to the PDF reader for students who don't have it
  8. Publish both the file you edited and the new PDF to the live server.

Posting the PDF to your web site (Dreamweaver/Mac):

  1. Copy the file to the folder where you store your web files.
  2. Open your web site in the usual manner.
  3. Open the page you want to link the file from, and create the link to the new file.
    • Add the file size next to the link name if it is over 50K
    • Add a link to the PDF reader for students who don't have it
  4. Synchronize your site with the server, or put both the PDF file and the updated web page to the server.
