HIGHLINE COMMUNITY COLLEGE PASSWORD STANDARD

• Passwords may not be shared or displayed.
• Previous 15 passwords cannot be used.
• Passwords must be changed after 110 days
• Passwords cannot be changed again for 1 day after a change has been made.
• Passwords must be at least 7 characters in length.
• A password protected screen saver will be employed after 15 minutes of PC inactivity.
• Passwords must meet the following complexity rules:
  • Cannot contain all or part of the user's account name
  • Cannot contain all or part of the user’s name
  • Cannot contain all or part of the user’s initials
  • Cannot contain all or part of the college name
  • Must not use words found in a dictionary
  • Must contain characters from three of the following four categories:
    • English uppercase characters (A through Z)
    • English lowercase characters (a through z)
    • Base 10 digits (0 through 9)
    • Non-alphanumeric characters (e.g. ~, *, #, %)

Highline uses many different systems with different enforceable password rules. This policy has been written to maintain consistency for all Highline systems that require passwords and must be followed on all Highline systems regardless of the individual system's ability to enforce this policy.
