INSTALLING YOUR INTERACTIVE MATHEMATICS CLIENT

In order to run Interactive Mathematics lessons, you must first install the Academic Online Client on your computer.

PLEASE NOTE: If you are going to complete your lessons in the Instructional Computing Center on campus, you should NOT do an install of the Internet Client on any IC computer. Academic Online is already installed in the open lab and in room 30-211. Look for it under the Start Menu, or ask the Help Desk staff for assistance.

Installing the Academic Online Client for Interactive Mathematics

Follow these basic steps to install the Academic Online Client for Interactive Mathematics on your computer. For more detailed instructions, please see the Interactive Mathematics Getting Started Guide on the Academic Systems support site.

  1. If you have Anti-Virus software installed on your computer, you must deactivate it before installing Academic Online.

  2. If you have a previous install of Academic Systems software, you must remove it before installing a new version (new versions are normally issued each August). If you have not used Academic Online or Mediated Learning before, you may skip to step 3. You can remove Academic Online by going to Start: Settings: Control Panel: Add/Remove Programs, selecting Academic Online Interactive Mathematics and clicking on Change/Remove. A box will pop up for Academic Online Uninstaller; click Start to uninstall the software. Once it says the uninstall is complete, click End, then click Close, then reboot your computer. When your computer restarts, make sure the Anti-Virus software is still disabled before continuing with the install.

  3. Insert the Interactive Mathematics Client Installer CD-ROM into the CD-ROM drive. It will automatically start and display a Setup dialog box. Click Install.

  4. Click Yes to accept the license agreement. The installer will then install all the components of Academic Online. This may take up to 20 minutes to complete depending on the speed of your computer.

  5. When the installation is complete, the Installation Complete dialog box appears. Select No, I will restart my computer later and click Finish to exit.

  6. Once your computer has restarted, continue with the Instructions for Logging on and Running a Lesson.
