HOW CAN I GET
ACCESS TO IC LABS?
Any currently enrolled student with a valid
Highline ID card is eligible to purchase
access to Instructional Computing facilities by paying the Instructional
Computing Fee (CF fee). This will be issued in the form of
a username and password for access to computers in IC facilities.
CWU-Des Moines students have access to labs through their CWU tech
fee. Students are required to activate their account before being
able to log in. Activation may be done at https://myinfo.highline.edu or
at a the activation kiosks available in Buildings 29 and 30 and
at the Federal Way Campus. Students
are also required, on request, to show proof of identity in the
form of a current valid HCC or CWU ID card. IC labs are open
to all Faculty and Staff with a valid staff ID card.
HOW MUCH
IS THE INSTRUCTIONAL COMPUTING USE FEE?
The Instructional Computing Use Fee
(CF) currently costs $34.00 and is good for the duration of the
current quarter. If you are registered for multiple classes taught
in IC facilities or Highline Online courses, you will pay no
more than 2 CF fees per quarter.
HOW DO I GET
MY USERNAME AND PASSWORD?
IC student accounts are created automatically
from registration records. If you have registered for a class
scheduled to meet in IC facilities your account will be created
by the first day of the quarter. Students are required to activate
their account before being able to log in. Activation may be
done at https://myinfo.highline.edu or
at a the activation kiosks available in Buildings 29 and 30 and
at the Federal Way Campus. You will recieve your username and
set your password at that time. You may find further information
on IC usernames and passwords and detailed instructions for activating
your account at the IC help desk or at the passwords
page.
If you are not registered for any classes
scheduled in IC facilities and would like to pay the CF fee separately,
you may do so at the Cashier’s Office in Bldg 6. If you register
for a class or pay the fee after the start of the quarter, your
account will be created and may be activated the following morning.
WHAT
SUPPORT IS PROVIDED IN IC LABS?
The lab assistants at the
IC Help Desk are available to help troubleshoot our hardware, software
problems, or printing problems as well as provide limited application
support. If you have questions about a particular software feature
or procedure, please check the application's on-line help first.
Limited application assistance is available at the Help Desk, but
due to the sheer number of programs available in the labs, we won't
always know the answer to your questions on a particular application.
If you have questions about your class assignments, please ask
your instructor. Tutoring services are available from the Tutoring
Center in Building 26.
HOW
MANY PAGES CAN I PRINT OUT IN IC LABS?
Right now, printing is not
limited in IC Labs. However, paper and toner are one of the biggest
operating expenses for IC, and we reserve the right to limit
printing in the future. We ask that you be courteous and only print
out that which is necessary for your class work. If you need multiple
copies of something for a class, please print out one copy and
use a copy machine for the rest. Color printing is also available,
and we especially ask that you limit color printing to those class-related
jobs for which color is necessary. The color printer is behind
the ICC help desk, and you must collect any color print jobs from
the help desk staff. For large jobs, please allow enough time for
your job to printed before closing, otherwise you may pick it up
the following day.
CAN
I INSTALL OR RUN MY OWN SOFTWARE IN IC LABS?
No, sorry. Personal applications, including
but not limited to games, file-sharing, and communications software,
are not to be installed or run in the labs. If additional software
is required for a class, your instructor must make an official
request to IC staff to have it installed. Violations may result
in suspension of your IC account and privileges.
ARE THERE OTHER
COMPUTERS AVAILABLE ON CAMPUS?
There are public access stations
available in the Library (Building 25) for Internet and Research
use only. For building location please check the campus
map page.
WHERE CAN I GET A
DISK?
Floppy disks are available for
purchase in the bookstore. In case of emergency, the IC Help Desk
has loaner floppy disks, which must be returned to the Help Desk
when you are done with them. IC Staff recommends that students
invest in a USB Flash Drive to store their files.
WHERE CAN
I USE A COPY MACHINE?
Currently there are only copy machines available
for student use in the Library.
WHERE CAN I USE
A PHONE?
There is a pay phone outside in the plaza.
There are also on-campus phones in the south corridor on each floor,
and in the north corridor on the second floor.
MAY I BRING FOOD OR
DRINKS TO IC LABS?
Food must be consumed
in the lobby or corridors, it is not allowed in the labs or classrooms.
Drinks may be taken into labs in closed containers with spill-proof
lids only.
