In
September 2003, I began my career at Highline Community College as
a Running Start Student. I was excited to attend college, but also
a bit scared that I would not find my niche.
I soon came into contact with Dr. Barbara Clinton. I enrolled in
her Honors 100 and Honors 101 courses. Dr. Clinton became my
mentor and helped me find my niche. She helped me to obtain a Team
Highline (student lead campus-wide programming team) position.
After taking Honors 100 and Honors 101, I was motivated to
complete the entire Honors Program at Highline. Every quarter I
would do at least one honors option to fulfill my goal. Needless
to say, in Spring 2005 I graduated as an Honors Scholar (and was
able to wear a lovely green gown – see picture!).
Thanks to my involvement in the Highline Honors Program, I am
moving onward in my educational career at Eastern Washington
University; I am the recipient of the Honors Transfer Scholarship.
I feel so grateful to have had my Honors Program experience at
Highline, especially having the chance to have Dr. Clinton as my
mentor. The Highline Honors Program has transformed me into a
confident and motivated student and individual, capable of taking
on any challenges that I face.
