"How To"
Information for Faculty
-
Identify potentially high-achieving
students and invite them to participate in the Highline Community
College Honors Program by doing an Honors Option Project. (It
is important to impress upon the students that if their final
course grade is below 3.5, they will not receive the honors
designation, regardless of any extra project they may have
completed. In order to encourage low-risk participation in the
Honors Program, most faculty count the Option Project for extra
credit, if a student does not meet the 3.5 level.)
-
Negotiate an Honors Option Project
with the student. (See Option Project Ideas or contact Barbara Clinton. The
paper or project should be university level work, in order to prepare
the student to transition more effectively to a BA-granting
institution.)
-
Complete the
Honors Option Form. Submit the Honors Option contract form to Barbara Clinton at the end
of the quarter after you have evaluated the project, written your evaluation
on the form, and signed the form again at the bottom.
-
After submitting your grades on the web,
send Mandy Mineard an email, with the student's name, SID#, and the course item
number, designating that the student should receive "Honors" credit.
