Campus Quiz Show
April 19, 2006
12:00 - 1:00 p.m.
Mt. Constance Room, HSU

Attend the Campus Quiz Show

  • Contest is open to anyone who has read the Introduction to Fast Food Nation.

  • It will be done in a "Who Wants to be a Millionaire" model.

  • Contestants will compete individually.

After the quiz show, there will be a showing of "The Future of Food" from 1:00 -2:00 p.m. in the Mt. Constance Room. All contest participants are welcome to stay for the film.

Essay Contest

Write an Inspirational Personal Essay in which you:

  • Identify the chapter you read in the book Fast Food Nation.

  • Describe a problem address in the chapter.

  • Tell of an action that you took to address the problem.

  • Report on the personal benefits you experienced by taking an action.

Additional Criteria:

  • Maximum length of three word-processed, double-spaced pages

  • Include two quotations, properly cited, from the book

  • Turn four printed copies of your essay in to the Faculty Resource Center secretary located on the sixth floor of Building 25 (the Library) on any of the following dates: May 17, 18, 19 or 22, between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m.

  • Complete a contest entry form, available from the Faculty Resource Center secretary, when you submit your essay.

Submission deadline: May 22, 2006

Poetry Contest

Compose a Poem in which you:

  • Respond to an issue described in a chapter of the book.

  • And also compose a one-paragraph Artist's Statement in which you:

    • Identify the chapter you read in the book Fast Food Nation.

    • Identify the problem described in the chapter that your poem addresses.

    • Explain why or how you believe this poem will inspire others to consider the problem.

  • Turn in four hard copies of your Artist's Statement and poem to the Faculty Resource Center secretary located on the sixth floor of Building 25 (the Library) on any of the following dates: May 9, 10, 11, 12, 15 or 16 between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m.
  • Complete a contest entry form, available from the Faculty Resource Center secretary, when you submit your poem.
  • Sign up for the May 17th Poetry reading when you submit your work. The reading will begin at 1:00 p.m. in Building 7.

PowerPoint Contest
 

Create a
Persuasive PowerPoint Presentation
in which you:

  • Identify the chapter you read in the book Fast Food Nation.

  • Describe a societal problem addressed in the chapter.

  • Propose practical solution(s) to the problem.

  • Explain how the solution(s) can be implemented in your community. (Define "your community" as any of the following: neighborhood, school, organization, city or region.)

  • Include the personal benefits that result from implementation of your solution.

Additional Criteria:

  • Maximum of 12 PowerPoint slides

  • Rule of 7: Max 7 lines per slide & 7 words per line

  • Include 2 quotations, properly cited, from the book

  • Turn in your Powerpoint CD to the Faculty Resource Center secretary located on the sixth floor of Building 25 (the Library) on any of the following dates: May 17, 18, 19 or 22, between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m.

  • Complete a contest entry form, available from the Faculty Resource Center secretary, when you submit your CD.

 Research Paper Contest

  • Additional Criteria: Maximum length of five word-processed, double-spaced pages, minimum of five academic/professional sources cited.

  • Turn four printed copies of your research paper in to the Faculty Resource Center secretary located on the sixth floor of Building 25 (the Library) on any of the following dates: May 17, 18, 19 or 22, between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m.

  • Complete a contest entry form, available from the Faculty Resource Center secretary, when you submit your paper.

Create a piece of Visual Art through which you:

  • Respond to an issue described in a chapter of the book Fast Food Nation.

  • Explain why or how you believe this piece of art will inspire others to consider the problem.
