We try to have the Exhibits Gallery booked year-round. Contact us about showing your work in our gallery.
We usually schedule exhibits for a month-long period with a couple of exceptions:
Inquiries about exhibiting work in the gallery can be directed to members of the Library Exhibits Committee at exhibits@highline.edu.
We post a notice on the Exhibits Gallery website that usually includes an artist's biography, statement and sample images. The campus has a student newspaper (The Thunderword) that includes articles written by student reporters about the current gallery exhibits. The Highline Community College Public Information Office distributes notices to community calendars in local newspapers about campus events, including gallery exhibits.
Artists are welcome to post purchase prices of works that are on display. We ask that artwork that has been purchased remain on display until the end of the exhibit.
We will make every effort to put potential purchasers in contact with the you. We can pass on the names and phone numbers of interested buyers to you so that you can contact the individuals. We do not charge any commission.
Note: the gallery is a wonderful place for viewing art - however, not necessarily a great place for selling art!
You are responsible for hanging your own work and can decide the best way to display your items in the gallery.
People have used several different techniques to hang their artwork depending on the weight of the artwork. The gallery has sturdy carpet-covered walls. Photos that are un-mounted or mounted on foam core can be hung with adhesive-backed Velcro - the hooked side of the Velcro sticks to the carpet covered walls. For heavier items, like framed works, we usually just drive nails through the carpeted wall into the plywood underneath. We can provide nails, hammers, hooks, and pins.
You should provide labels and an artist's statement. Note: the artist's statement really enhances the experience of gallery visitors!
We try to contact exhibitors about 1-2 weeks before their scheduled exhibit. It helps us to know when you plan to arrive for installing and taking down your exhibit. That way we can help transport your work to and from the gallery, provide carts, hand trucks, ladders and tools, as well as answer any questions you may have.
Highline Community College is located off exit 149 from I-5. Head west toward Des Moines. At the first stop light (Pacific Highway South) turn left. Turn right at 240th Street and take the first right into the main college entrance. You are now in the East Parking Lot. Follow the campus road (and signs) around the perimeter of this parking lot to the North Parking Lot.
The library is a six story white building with blue trim. Monday through Friday the loading area at the back of the library can be used for unloading artwork. If you park in the loading area, please park to one side so delivery trucks can still use the area. It is best to move your vehicle to the main parking area once your artwork has been unloaded. Afternoons and evenings are the best time for unloading and setting up.
