NW - ETEP

NW-ETEP is the Northwest Engineering Talent Expansion Partnership, a five-year National Science Foundation project with an overall goal of increasing the number of undergraduate engineering degrees earned in the state of Washington by 10% over five years.

For engineering students at Highline, helpful activities and services are offered through the office of Bob Embrey, NW-ETEP Project Manager.

Components of NW - ETEP:

  • University tutors assigned to Highline engineering students

  • Field trips to engineering sites

  • Panel discussions with local engineers

  • Job shadowing

  • Internships

  • Social events (pizza parties, ice cream socials, and more)

  • Specialized advising and help with transfers to university

Students may join the engineering department email list for announcements and invitations to participate in activities and events.

Project Goals

In addition to the overall goal of increasing the number of undergraduate engineering degrees earned in the state of Washington by 10% over five years, NW-ETEP will also:

  1. increase by 100% the number of underrepresented minorities earning undergraduate engineering degrees
  2. increase by 20% the number of women earning undergraduate engineering degrees
  3. develop and implement a statewide strategy to fully utilize the capacity of all the state's engineering programs (and ultimately all STEM programs).
