Teachers of Tomorrow (TOT) at Highline Community
College is a recognized club that seeks to support the education
students at Highline and encourage them to pursue a career in
teaching or other aspects of education. We work to provide resources
they need to succeed at Highline and, for those who wish to go on to
four-year colleges or universities, to make a successful transition
to these programs.
We are also a chapter of the student Washington Education
Association (SWEA) and offer membership to Highline students. SWEA
provides additional opportunities for training and professional
development for pre-service teachers.
Among the activities offered and/or supported by Teachers of
Tomorrow are:
-
Informal gatherings to meet others
interested in becoming teachers
-
Study sessions for students about to
take the WEST-B test
-
Teacher Recognition program that honors
outstanding local teachers
-
Guest speakers on topics such as
testing and student teaching
-
Club Fairs to promote the teaching
profession on campus
-
Fund-raising activities for local
and international projects (e.g.Scholastic Book Fair for
children's literacy on campus; garage/cookie/candle sales for
the purchase of
wheelchairs for an African orphanage)
Club advisors are
Patricia McDonald and Joan Graham
