Post a Job Opportunity

Thank you for your interest in degree opportunities with Highline's Education Department!

We offer an Associate of Arts degree with an emphasis in Education and Associate of Applied Science degrees in both Early Childhood and Paraeducation.  Scroll down for more information.

Associate of Arts Degree (AA)

An Associate of Arts degree with an emphasis in Education may be your choice if you are interested in transferring to a 4 year college to become a certified teacher.  Certified teachers work the Kindergarten through 12th grade system.

Many teacher certification programs have specific pre-requisites.  It is important that you identify and communicate with the college/university that you are interested in so you can best meet these requirements.  We encourage you to consider several options for transfer.

This degree can be developed to meet the transfer requirements of many four year colleges. If you plan to pursue an AA make an appointment to see an advisor in Highline's Education Department.

Washington State requires that students who plan to enter a teacher certification program pass the WEST-B test.

Associate of Applied Science (AAS)

     Early Childhood Education

An AAS degree in Early Childhood Education prepares you to work with young children and families. This may be a good option for you if you're interested in:

  • teaching children at a childcare, preschool or Head Start program

  • working with school-age children at a before or after school program

  • starting a childcare in your home

  • seeking a position as a director or supervisor of a program

The courses in this degree are based on competencies from the Washington State Skill Standards.

     Paraeducation

An AAS degree in Paraeducation could be your choice if you are interested in working in the K-12 system assisting certified teachers.  This degree prepares you to work in schools and educational settings that serve learners from infancy through 21 years. There is a strong emphasis on supporting learners who are experiencing delays, have disabilities, and/or those who are learning English.

The courses for the AAS in Paraeducation are are based upon the Washington State Paraeducator Skill Standards.
