Information literacy Instruction and Assessment Group

Overview: This summer, our six-member team will be working together to develop methods for integrating information literacy instruction into three courses (ABE/ESL 028, Political Science 150 and Education 110). Working in pairs (one classroom instructor -to- one librarian) we will develop methods for assessing student learning based on the librarys information literacy outcomes. It is our expectation that student achievement in meeting the overall course outcomes will be improved as a result. This planning work will be implemented during Fall quarter, 2001. The results will serve as a model for ongoing campus-wide efforts to assess students information literacy within the context of their courses. Specifically we will: ... develop an information literacy curriculum tailored to needs of students in ABE/ESL 028, Political Science 150 and Eucation 110. ... work collaboratively to integrate information literacy within the course content of these three classes. ... begin assessing students information literacy skills at Highline Community College. ... create models for librarian/instructor collaboration for the purpose of developing course-integrated information literacy instruction. Additionally, Highline's faculty librarians will: ... gain skills in developing course-integrated information literacy curricula in compliance with the library's Action Plan for Advancing a Program of Information Literacy Instruction. |
