Intranet Web Standards
Intranet Web Pages are those pages which are used to facilitate campus operations.
They are directed at an audience that includes faculty and staff.
Required Components for faculty and course homepages
- Name of department/unit
- e.g., Strategic Planning would have Office of the Vice President of
Administration
- Contact person with email and phone number
- Contact person is the person responsible for directing questions to
the right place
- Date of last update
- Navigational tools
- Logo always links to college home page
- Link to the parent home page of the specific site
Requirements when used
- College Logo must be a college approved image (see the
logo
gallery)
- Images
- Meaningful alt tags on all images
- Height/width tags on all images
- Navigational tools
- Search function to have the same look wherever used
General requirements
- Pages spell checked and proof read
- No browser-specific terminology
- Pages are complete before being posted
- If the page needs an under-construction sign, leave it on
the development site.
- Follow standard test procedure
prior to initial posting and with any major revision
- Maintenance plan is in place that includes who is responsible and frequency
of content review and testing of links.
- Warning label on links/downloads over 50k
- Text for link should make sense even if the link is not present, as when
the page is printed
- e.g. Contact webmaster@highline.edu instead of Contact
webmaster
- Comply with ADA guidelines this requirement applies to all pages,
not just faculty and course homepages
Recommended Components
- When frequent printing of page content is expected, a printer friendly
version should be provided.
Note: Personal page space is provided as a training resource for faculty
and staff to learn basic web skills and to experiment with new techniques.
Personal pages are not subject to college web development standards.
These standards have been approved by the Campus Web Committee
and reviewed by Executive Staff.
