Focus The Nation: Global Warming Solutions for America

Highline Community College will host three sessions that will look at how transportation, food, economic and political choices affect climate change.

Movies: An Inconvenient Truth, Who Killed the Electric Car, The Road Warrior

Bldg. 2- 9:00 am-3:00 pm

Literature Table- Learn about global to local climate change issues and win prizes!

Bldg 2- 10:00 am-2:00 pm

Photography exhibit:  Show us what you want to do about climate change!  Get your picture on bldg 2 and our website.

Raising the Temperature: A Global Climate Change Community Roundtable

Date: Saturday, March 10th, 2007.  10:00am-12:30pm

Location: Highline Community College, Buildings 2 and 3, Rooms 2-101 and 3-102

Description: Highline Community College is hosting a free roundtable teach-in.  Participants will have time in between five speaker presentations to discuss local climate change issues with questions following presentations.   

Speakers: The five invited speakers reflect the diversity of challenges we may face from this environmental crisis.  They are,

Lara Whitely Binder- Outreach Coordinator for the Climate Impacts Group.  http://www.cses.washington.edu/cig/

Peter Illyn- Founder and Executive Director of Restoring Eden: Christians for Environmental Stewardship.  http://www.restoringeden.org/

Rosemarie M. Ives- Mayor of Redmond, one of the original 8 mayors to sign and pass around the US Mayors climate protection Agreement.

Jessica Eagle- Volunteer with Cascade chapter of Sierra Club, a local environmental community action group. http://cascade.sierraclub.org/

Screening of An Inconvenient Truth

Date: Friday, February 9th, 2007, 12:00pm and 7:00pm 

Location: Highline Community College, Building 7.

Description: Inspired by recent local events, Highline Community College hosted two free screenings of Al Gore's Oscar-winning documentary, An Inconvenient Truth.  A post-film discussion led by Highline's Woody Moses (About Us), Climate Solution's Megan Dixon (Community Partners), and The Sierra Club's Jennifer Eagle (Community Partners)focused on what you can do about global warming. 

Action Item Handout: At the Inconvenient Truth screenings, Highline's Climate Change Group prepared a handout with ideas for people to reevaluate and take action against climate change.  Click here to see a copy of the handout with active links.
