Library & Information Services Apprenticeship Training
Apprenticeship is a system of training in which a person desiring to learn a specific occupation is given instruction and experience on the job, as well as community or technical college courses related to that particular occupation. It is a time-proven method of systematically producing highly skilled workers.
Classes are open to:
Student apprentices registered with the Washington State Department of Labor and Industries and approved by the Public School Classified Employees Joint Apprenticeship Training Committee receive reduced tuition.

Annual Cycle
These courses are required for apprentice and certificate students. They may be taken in any order. In addition, a 10-hour Introduction to Apprenticeship class is required (by arrangement with advisor).

Winter:

LIBR 170 Bibliographic Records I (5 cr)
Spring:
LIBR 100/101 Effective Use of Library (3 cr)

LIBR 180/181 Audiovisual Services (5 cr)
The expected annual schedule includes the required courses being offered as on-campus courses scheduled to meet, usually daily, for fifty-minute hours, from 8:00 or 9:00 up to 2:00. The online versions will be offered simultaneously. Some core courses for apprentice training are assigned slightly modified course masters and course numbers. For example, the apprentice version of LIBR 100 is LIBR 101. Often these changes will be made automatically. Contact your advisor as needed.

Associate of Applied Science (AAS) Degree
Apprentices interested in obtaining an AAS degree will need to complete the classes listed on this brochure, plus additional credits. Classes for these additional courses can be completed at Highline Community College or any other community college or university. At Highline an additional 18 credits of optional Library classes and BUSN 121 or 135, BTECH 108, SPECH 100, and WRIT 101 are required. They can be completed before, during, or after the apprenticeship.
