ACHIEVE

Highline Community College’s ACHIEVE
provides opportunities for adults with disabilities to participate in
a variety of classes and experiences in a community college setting.
Another component within ACHIEVE is ACHIEVE Transition,
a post secondary option specifically for transition students.
The program focuses on four major areas that prepare students for
employment in the community: Employment Readiness, Independent Living,
Self-Advocacy and Essential Skill Building.
Quarterly course offerings may include:

Learning Styles: assessment and application

Employment Readiness: classroom based career
exploration, interview skills, and workplace communication with job
sampling and assessment in community-based businesses

Essential Skills: reading, math, computer and
life skills

Individualized Instruction: tutoring and open
computer lab options
Independent Living: nutrition, budgeting, time management

Self-Advocacy
-
Self-Employment
No Academic Prerequisites. Potential students are
not screened out of employment or
training options due to a lack of skills. Through both formal and
informal assessment methods, information is gathered to assist in
class placement and advising.
Individualized Counseling and Guidance. ACHIEVE staff assist
students to navigate the variety of educational services and training
options within Highline Community College, such as
Access Services
and in the community.
Employment Placement. ACHIEVE students are linked to
appropriate placement services, which can include
Employment Services.
