Frequently Asked Questions

What services, if any, am I eligible for?

You can be referred to us by a division of the Department of Social and Health Services (DSHS), for example the Division of Developmental Disabilities (DDD), Department Vocational Rehabilitation (DVR), Department of Services for the Blind (DSB), or by a third-party advocate, or by your school district personnel. Eligibility requirements vary depending on funding sources. All appropriate funding sources will be accepted. However, if we do not have staff capacity or staff appropriately skilled to meet your specific needs, we may not be able to accept the referral.

It is important to talk directly with a referral source, such as a DSHS representative, and with a Highline Community College representative directly to understand what specific services for which you may qualify.

  • IRWE (Impairment-Related Work Expenses)

What is the criteria for order of acceptance?

Admission to programs will be considered on an individual basis and will be determined by eligibility for funding, appropriateness of service and staff availability. Prior to admissions, Highline Community College may request educational, vocational, psychological, psychiatric, medical or criminal records to determine which services the individual may qualify for and/or which service would be most appropriate for the individual. The Program Manager of each program is responsible for the final decision on acceptance.

An intake meeting may be scheduled to discuss our services and each individual will be notified within one week from their request for services the result of their admission request. Individuals and appropriate funding sources will be notified if deemed ineligible.
