General tips for teaching with BlackBoard
Put the Blackboard Address in your syllabus
- Remind the students that there is no www in the address. If they include that, they will not get to the site.
Attach the ICC password standards to your syllabus
- Remember student password standards are different from faculty passwords
Orient your students to Blackboard
- Ideally, you would take your class to the computer lab and walk them through how to get into Blackboard. Each class can use the computer labs 3 times without paying the lab fee. See the related best practice for more ways to orient students.
Make sure students enter their current e-mail addresses in Blackboard.
If a student submits their e-mail address upon registration, that e-mail address is entered in Blackboard automatically. However, student email addresses change, so have them make sure that the e-mail address they wish to be contacted at for class purposes is the e-mail address that is in Blackboard.
- To change the e-mail address, have students click on the Tools button and Personal Information, then Edit Personal Information
- You may want torequire in your syllabus that students keep their e-mail address current.
