"Contemporary Voices"
Spring 2009
Wednesdays at 12:10 in Building 7
A series of
discussions on the topic of:
"Opening Doors"
Colloquy means conversation.
Each Wednesday during the quarter, we will have special
speakers coming to our sessions to tell their own personal
stories of "opening doors" and to discuss your options with
you. Come engage the experts in regard to choices that
you will/must make for doors to open. Colloquy
presentations are open to the public.
In order to receive credit, you must:
1) be registered for Honors 101or
Humanities 101,
2) view the presentations, and
3) must participate in the
Blackboard
discussion.

April 8 :
12:10-1:15PM, Bldg.7: Natasha Burrowes, Highline's own
activities guru, will get
you excited about getting involved in your campus and your
community.
April 15:
12:10-1:15PM, Bldg.7: Dr. Bob Baugher (psychology)
and student Katherine Tacke
explain "the imposter phenomenon," its relevance to you,
and Katherine's research in regard to the phenomenon.
April 22:
12:10-1:15PM, Bldg. 7:
Lance Frank, 2008-9 HCC Student Body President,
will share his own personal life story, tell how
he came to
be so involved on campus, and give you specific ideas on
how you can be involved in a meaningful way as well.
April 29:

UNITY THROUGH DIVERSITY WEEK
Immigration Reform- lecture by Gilberto Gomez
12:10-1:13- building 7
Co-sponsored by Honor’s Colloquy & United Latino Association
In this interesting and informational presentation you will
learn about the struggles behind immigration reform and the
realities that undocumented people face. Originally from
Guadalajara, Mexico, attorney Gilberto Gomez faced
significant barriers emigrating from Mexico to the United
States.

Steve Simpkins, HCC Honors Scholar graduate,
Biology Department student of the year, and HCC
student body president 2007-8 returns to campus as
current UW nursing school class of 2010 President and
Honors Program student, to share the excitement of where
he is now (his current course of study) and to explain in
detail the plans and effort it took to get there.

student will share her stories and slides from her
quarter
in Thailand, and tell you about the Honors Option projects
that she worked on while there.

Lubatti, Ph.D., UW Professor of Physics, will talk
about his research at the Hadron Collider in Cern,
Switzerland

student, will talk
about his interdisciplinary arts and sciences major, the
UWT Global Honors Program, and his two study-abroad
experiences in Africa. |
