The colloquy and Honors Seminar are different this year (winter and spring).

We will have our usual selection of great speakers, from both on and off campus. (Check link below.)

The difference is that our theme for this 40th anniversary session is "Opening Doors." And we intend to focus on our student audience, on helping them to see "doors" and to increase their repertoire of strategies for opening them.

So our speakers for winter will talk about the "doors" available here on campus (Dr. Bell and Jewell Fitzgerald), the "doors" to educational opportunities and international awareness (Tom VanderArk and Bernie Ryan), and the "doors" opened through the arts (Alexis Denisof and Dr. Samuel Jones).

Then we'll spend one full session of the colloquy on workshopping these ideas, from networking to finding financing for higher ed to resume writing, especially geared toward those students who hope to transfer to 4-year schools (and often don't attend the sessions offered by Career Development).

And our final speaker (Melanie DeBond) will be a living, breathing example of how it's done, from HCC grad in 1995, through a BA and MA in speech communication, to an executive position in a billion-dollar, international, publicly traded company to now president of her own enterprise.

Following is a kaleidoscope of clips taken from several Colloquies which have been edited into a sample Student Project video to showcase the Honors Colloquy Seminar Series.
