Deaf and Hard of Hearing Services
Highline offers sign language interpreters as
well as TypeWell transcribers for access to classes and
extracurricular events upon request.
Interpreters -
Our interpreters are either certified or have been determined
qualified to interpret. Interpreters translate from spoken English
to ASL or Contact Sign Language, whichever is deemed most
appropriate for the student with whom they are working.
Transcribers -
Our transcribers use the TypeWell transcription
system, a meaning-for-meaning system. This means the transcriber
uses a laptop to capture all spoken content in class communication,
including jokes, off-the-point comments, behavioral control, etc.
