How do I begin
ABE/GED classes?
Registration and
assessment is done at the Highline Community College main campus. For
information regarding times and dates of ABE/GED registration and assessment

Registration is held
twice a quarter- before the quarter begins and mid-quarter. For specific dates

How much do
ABE/GED classes cost?
Tuition for ABE/GED classes is $25
(non-refundable) per quarter. Students who are unable to pay the tuition may
ask for a waiver.

How long are
ABE/GED classes?
Most classes meet for two and one half hours
twice a week for ten weeks per quarter. If necessary, students can continue to
take classes for multiple quarters.

Where are
ABE/GED classes?
Day and evening
classes are held at the Highline Community College main campus. There are
several off-campus evening classes at the Federal Way Center, White Center and
Thomas Jefferson High School. New off-campus locations are created on an
ongoing basis.

What is ESL?
Non-credit ESL classes
provide five different levels of instruction to help adults who have limited English
skills. Improvement is achieved
only by advancing
through all five levels.
English as a Second Language credit classes focus on reading, writing,
listening, and speaking and help prepare students for college level classes.

Who Qualifies for ESL?
ESL classes are
offered to U.S. citizens, immigrants, refugees and permanent residents.
Individuals holding temporary visas such as International students, business
travelers, or tourists cannot attend these classes.

Immigrants, refugees, permanent residents of
U.S. citizens
who are at least 16 years of age.

Students between 16-18 years old, not enrolled
in secondary school, must have a release authorization from their school
district.
